Amman, Jordan
A specialized training program on legal and media advocacy was organized by Equality Now in Amman, Jordan, as part of the Young Women for Awareness, Agency, Advocacy, and Accountability program. The four-day training brought together young women from Jordan and Palestine, including participants from Noun al-Taghyeer project, with the goal of strengthening their advocacy skills, especially regarding gender-based issues.
The training included an official opening, interactive sessions, and an overview of the organizing institutions and the program's goals. It focused on building a collaborative environment for experience-sharing, particularly in developing advocacy materials related to domestic violence.
Trainer Nevine Odeh from Egypt led sessions on safety concepts and safe spaces for young women, while discussing forms of violence during peacetime through group discussions and exercises. Lebanese filmmaker Khalil Zaarour provided practical training on visual production tools, scriptwriting, and directing techniques.
Participants explored various topics, including violence against women during conflict; such as forced displacement, recruitment, physical abuse, sexual violence, and restricted access to reproductive health services. They also analyzed anti-violence laws and the role of relevant institutions in supporting survivors.
The program highlighted legal advocacy as a tool for influencing public policy and legislation, introducing techniques like lobbying, campaigning, mobilization, and public advocacy. Media advocacy skills were also strengthened through hands-on training in filming and visual documentation.
The training concluded with participants producing short films reflecting their deepened understanding of violence in conflict, legal advocacy mechanisms, and the use of visual tools in human rights work.
