“Your White Penny”...a theatrical performance on domestic violence
Ramallah- Al-Hara
Theatre in Beit Jala, in partnership with the YWCA of Palestine and in
cooperation with the Palestinian NGO Organization Against Domestic Violence
Against Women (Al-Muntada), presented a theatrical performance titled
"Your White Penny" as part of the Young Women for Awareness,
Advocacy, and Accountability (YW4A) programme.
Mirna
Sakhla wrote and directed the performance, which centered on domestic violence
and starred Hadeel Al-Takrouri, Abdullah Banoura, and Nicola Zreineh. Issam
Rishmawi created the decor and techniques, while Marina Barham managed the
production.
In her YWCA Palestine
speech, Grants Reporting and Compliance Manager Selina Salama emphasized that
the YW4A is one of the organization's strategic programs, implemented in
collaboration with a number of local, regional, and international partners, and
aims to strengthen the ability of young women and local women's rights organizations
to demand their rights by taking on leadership roles.
“YW4A’s strategic objective is to defend and
expand the fulfilment of young women’s rights to dignity, bodily integrity, and
equal participation in decision-making, through the implementation of
gender-just policies and laws.” She added.
Following
the performance, lawyer Tala Hamdan, one of the young women participating in
the programme, presented a legal paper on domestic violence, which was followed
by a panel discussion moderated and facilitated by young women participating in
the programme with representatives from the Ministries of Women's Affairs,
Endowments and Religious Affairs, Justice, and National Economy, as well as the
Al-Muntada coordinator, Sabah Salama. The panel explored the issue's legal and
social implications, as well as audience insights.
