"Maṭab"..A theatrical performance discussing the harassment in the work environment
Bethlehem, October 4, 2023- "Al-Hara Theatre" in Beit Jala, in partnership with the YWCA of Palestine and the Psychological and Social Counseling Center for Women, presented a theatrical performance titled "Maaṭb (Bump)", as part of the Young Women for Awareness, Advocacy, and Accountability (YW4A) program.
The performance addressed the issue of work environment harassment and was written and directed by Raneen Odeh, featuring Hadeel Al-Takruri, Abdullah Bannura, and Nicola Zreineh as actors.
Following the performance, a panel discussion on the issue was moderated by lawyer Nadine Issa, one of the program's participating young women.
The discussion included contributions from lawyer Areej Shahin from the Psychosocial Counseling Center for Women and Mona Jubran, the Secretary-General of the Bethlehem Labor Unions Federation. The session delved into the legal and social dimensions of the issue and included insights from the audience.
YW4A is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is being implemented over a period of five years, 2021–2025, in Egypt, Palestine, South Sudan, and Kenya. It aims to contribute to eliminating gender-based violence and achieving gender equality, as well as raise the voices of young women and promote their participation in decision-making.
It's worth mentioning that the YW4A program includes innovative partnerships implemented in Egypt, Kenya, Palestine, and South Sudan. It is built upon collaboration between local and international partners, involving four collaborating organizations: YWCA Palestine, YWCA Kenya, YWCA South Sudan, and the Ibrahimia Media Center in Egypt, along with technical partners: the World YWCA, Equality Now, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), and the Faith to Action Network.
